Tips for Running in the Summer

Beat the heat with our guide to running in the summer! Find summer gear, tips, and hacks for keeping cool to make sure you’re safe while out on a run as the heat continues to rise. These tips will make your summer runs much more manageable and, in turn, much safer and enjoyable!

1 Summer Running Tip #1: Wear Your Pocket Hat, The Cool Way

During the summer, a hat or visor is a must-have addition to your running gear! Our CoolRun pocket hats are designed with side pockets so you can easily keep your essentials with you, like your ID, and keep yourself cool with our summer running hack!

Wear Your Pocket Hat, The Cool Way

  • Cut a sponge in half
  • Soak and freeze the sponges
  • Tuck those frozen sponges (or just ice cubes) into the side pockets of your CoolRun hat for a sustainable way to keep your head cool on your run!

2 Summer Running Tip #2: Freeze Your Comfort Hat & Visor

Running Visors

If you are someone who likes a more fitted hat, opt for a comfort visor or comfort hat which provides moisture-wicking performance. Soak and freeze the comfort visor or hat for an instant cooling effect during your most intense runs and workouts in the Summer heat!

3 Summer Running Tip #3: Turn Beach Towel Into a Car Seat Cover

Running Seat Covers

Summer time means windows down, music blasting, convertibles, and maybe some new running trails! It also means beach sand everywhere and hot leather seats. We introduce our incredible hooded beach towels! The running towels are quick-drying, ultra absorbent, soft but most importantly super versatile!

These hooded towels are great as regular beach or workout towels, but they are also the perfect seat cover for your car! Drape the hood over your headrest to keep the towel in place and you have an adorable way to avoid sticking to the hot leather in your car and protect your seats from sweat! These towels are super absorbent so you won’t have to worry about any sweat seeping into your seats anymore! They’re also machine-washable, so you can quickly toss them in the wash with your running clothes!

This goes without saying when it comes to running in the Summer heat, but make sure to wear proper moisture-wicking gear and stay hydrated!

Moisture-Wicking Gear

Men's Tech Tees

So much of summer running is based on keeping as cool as possible. While taking scissors to a shirt to make it sleeveless might work in a pinch, it’s absolutely worth looking into some performance tank tops and performance shirts rather than sticking with heavier cotton tees year-round. Our performance wear for both women and men is moisture-wicking and offers UV 40+ protection so you can stay cool, dry, and safe on your run!

Hydration

Running Water Bottles

Honestly, this should go without saying, but it bears repeating. Drinking water is important all year long, but especially during the summer when higher temperatures can dehydrate you even faster! In the hotter weather, you definitely want to grab a water bottle that will keep your drinks cool, like our Runtechnology® water bottles for runners, which are designed to accommodate ice cubes and keep cold drinks cool! You also want to make sure that you are drinking water throughout the day so you’re consistently hydrated, not just while you’re running.

Pro-Tip: Fill a Runtechnology® water bottle halfway the night before your run and keep that in the freezer overnight tilted over or on its side. In the morning before your run, fill the other half with water. This will chill your water even more than just adding ice cubes. When you’re carrying your bottle as you run, you can hold the frozen side of the bottle as cooling your palms will help keep your overall body temperature down.
