RUN WITH US BLOG

Come, run along with us as we share our joy of everything running.

Time is just flying by. Back in July I posted that I am 16 weeks out from the New York City Marathon, and now, I am less than 10 weeks away from race day!

My original plan was to follow up a marathon training plan straight from a book. However, after quite some thought, I wasn't sure pulling a one-size-fits-all marathon plan would yield me the results I wanted.  I know I have a lot of endurance, but I still need a lot of help in the leg speed department.

I recruited our resident athlete trainer, Peter, to help me map out a marathon training plan, and so far, it has been quite a success! Confession: I totally hate speedwork and try to avoid it at all costs. It stresses me out (I worry I won't be able to hit the paces I need), I get nervous about overloading myself and causing injury, and most of all, it's hard. Having someone else map out my runs and force me to do these quality workouts, especially someone as talented as Peter, totally takes the guesswork out of my training.  Plus, it's so nice to be accountable a coach. After every workout, I upload my data from my Garmin, straight to the online log where Peter posts my runs for me.  Just knowing that if I slack off, someone else will see it, helps me bring my A game to every run, no matter how tired I am at the start.

I know there's a lot of work to do in the next 6-7 weeks before I get to taper down. Although I am slightly nervous for what's to come, (I've already had a 50+ mile/week - the most miles I've ever run in one week!) but, I know all the hard work will be worth it come November 4th.
