RUN WITH US BLOG

Come, run along with us as we share our joy of everything running.

You might have this idea in your head that all of us here at Gone For a Run are caffeinated track-stars that run marathons every weekend. Though I do have a running IV of tea hooked up to me at all times, and many here are runners...I for one am not a runner. You may see me running to the car in this cold weather, but that's the extent.

Being a part of this company surrounded by happy runners all day, I have decided to do my first 10k ever, the Log Off, Shut Down, Go Run Virtual 10k. At first I thought, "Maybe all this It'sNotAboutBeingTheBesttea is going to my head...", but the truth is that anyone can do this. You can too!

Don't get me wrong...we won't be able to wake up on the weekend of April 24th and run 6.2 miles for the first time. It will be a challenge, and it will take training, but it will also be a huge accomplishment!

The beauty about a Virtual Race and a reason why I'm even more motivated to run the Log Off 10k is that you can race anywhere. There's no crowd you feel inclined to stick with while running, no intimidation from other runners, no competition. The only person you are racing is yourself. And yet there is still a sense of community. Run, walk, or crawl we will all make it to the finish line and celebrate. We will proudly share our success around the world!

If you're in the same shoes as me, we better start training! But speaking of shoes, before you hit the ground running, look down and make sure you have a decent pair of running shoes on your feet. Get fitted at a store near you to make sure we stay injury free.

Go into this 10k knowing that no runner is the same. Depending on your fitness, set a reasonable goal that you'd like to achieve and start running a couple of times per week. Don't worry about your pace and if you need to, take walking breaks in between intervals. Even if you are physically fit, let your bones and muscles catch up to your cardio, running is a high impact sport. Eventually begin adding time, build gradually. Push your limits, strive to cover the distance, and you will be able to finish!10434367_976124799072254_8700308689732973138_n

The most important thing is to have fun and don't worry! There is no reason to be self conscious about your pace. And once you've finished, put on your race swag and beautiful finisher's medal, smile (don't forget to breathe), and take a photo to share with us and your friends. I know I will! I'll see you at the finish line!
