My daughter Mya was born with MAS and was in NICU for 54 days. While in there we met a lot of families in the same situation and not all have a strong support system, and this race is to help fund some of those families we met along Mya’s Journey. The funding will go towards the families' hospital bills, oxygen, formula, diapers, gas to a from the hospital to visit their child, etc. with this pandemic going on and their babies already being very fragile and sick it’s scarier for these families now more than ever. One family, in particular, hasn’t left the hospital since COVID and is not working as well.

What is meconium aspiration syndrome?
Meconium is the first feces, or stool, of the newborn. Meconium aspiration syndrome occurs when a newborn breathes a mixture of meconium and amniotic fluid into the lungs around the time of delivery. Meconium aspiration syndrome, a leading cause of severe illness and death in the newborn, occurs in about 5 percent to 10 percent of births. It typically occurs when the fetus is stressed during labor, especially when the infant is past its due date.
