The 10th Annual Illini Veterans Memorial 5k Run/Walk is taking place on Sunday, April 3th, 2022, to honor and celebrate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The Illini Veterans will be donating the majority of the profits from the event to the Chez Family Foundation Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education (https://chezveteranscenter.ahs.illinois.edu/), while retaining a small portion of the proceeds to put towards the organization and planning for next year’s 5K. The Center provides comprehensive and integrated services for veterans as they pursue degrees at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Established in 2009, the Illini Veterans began with three student veterans from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has become the voice for student veterans at UIUC with over 50+ military-connected members. The organization, which is a chapter of the Student Veterans of America, helps student veterans develop a social and professional network, share veteran-related information, and make their voices heard in the community. Our goal is to integrate student veterans into the community and assist them in the transition from military to student life. In addition to supporting student veterans, our organization has recently contributed time, money, and items to benefit the Danville Veterans Affairs Hospital, local Veteran Service Organization, and organizations serving the less fortunate. The Illini Veterans feel a need to give back to the community that has fostered our educational and personal development, and we want to continue to support our fellow veterans.
