St. Patrick's Day Races

For runners, any excuse is a good excuse for a race. In the same vein, St. Patrick's Day is a globally celebrated holiday on March 17th, which runners have taken and... well, run with. From fun runs to marathons, St Patrick’s now is now a great time to dress in all the fun green you can find and get to running! Similar to Thanksgiving, this holiday is gaining even more repute for the costumes and outrageous racing garb! These races typically have a festive atmosphere, with participants dressing in green and shamrocks, and many races offer prizes for the best costumes.

St Patricks Day

Here is a list of just a few examples of the many St. Patrick's Day races that are held annually around the world. Whether you're a seasoned runner or a beginner, there's likelya St. Patrick's Day race in your area that you can participate in.

1 Shamrock Shuffle

This 8K race is held in Chicago, Illinois and is one of the largest St. Patrick's Day races in the United States. It is one of Chicago’s best spring running events, welcoming everyone from elite athletes to beginner runners with a one-of-a-kind course that weaves its way through Chicago’s Loop, starting and finishing in Grant Park.

2 May The Road Rise to Meet Ye Road Race

This is an awesome option for beginners or runners who love races but don’t do the long distance training that a marathon runner might do! Patchogue hosts a St. Patrick’s 2 mile run/walk that kicks off a holiday parade! As some of the best fun runs do, Patchogue also boasts a costume competition, so don’t forget your best accessories!

3 Calgary St. Patrick's Day Road Race

If you’re a bit closer to our neighbors in the North, Calgary boasts what they dub the “Original St. Patrick's Day Road Race.” This long-running race and festival are soon to eclipse 40 years of traditions and are making their triumphant in-person return this year!
